This is the first schoolie striped bass I ever caught from a boat!
On occasion, I have hooked seagulls and terns! I always use care to reel them in safely and release them uninjured. Every now and again, a hooked gull will fly in attempt to get away...it's like reeling in a kite!!
We see alot of whales when we fish in the summer. These are Humpback Whales feeding on sand eels.
Here's a good shot of the "baleen" inside a Humpbacks mouth.
This may be a bit closer than anyone is supposed to be to the whales, but they are free to roam wherever they like and that INCLUDES underneath any vessel that may be between them and where they want to be.
A local whale watch boat gets an awesome view of a breaching Humpback.
This Humpback has just scooped up a mouthfull of sand eels and is pushing the water through it's baleen with it's tongue.
These two Humpbacks were putting on quite a show. One was rolling over and over...the other one was on it's back smacking the water with it's tail.
An incredible sight...two feeding Humpbacks.

The summer of '07 and a 41" Striped Bass!
A few minutes later...a 45" Striped Bass!!
This photo breaks my heart...My first hook-up with a Blue Fin Tuna. I had the fish on for one hour and fifty-six minutes. I managed to get him close enough to see him THREE times, but not close enough to land. We guessed his weight at 125#. The entire time I worked the fish, I could feel it's tail hitting the line...line will only take so much abuse before it breaks...
My arms still ache!
Maybe it's still out there...?
This disgusting thing is a dogfish. It's a small shark you may encounter if your fishing near the bottom. If you reel one in, PLEASE ask for extra hands to un-hook it! Spiney Dogfish have teeth and very sharp spines on their back...OUCH!
Basking Sharks are often sighted off the shore of Cape Ann. This guy was around 25 feet long!
A bit off base...but once a year we go on a "fishing vacation" ourselves. This is a Blackfin Tuna caught in the Florida Keys.

2009 Photos
My first ever haddock...just over 21" long. I tossed him back in!
Not my "first" cod...this was our second trip out and I remembered the camera...atlast! He measured 26", a long haul off the bottom at 225 feet! Alot of fun, even in the FOG....
I think it's a "cusk eel". There appears to be "cusk fish" and "cusk eels". Check out those lips!!
Woo-Hoo!!! First big bass of 2009!!
This 2009 bass came up on a jig!! I was looking for cod and was pulling up an empty jig until it got half way back to the boat and this guy slammed it...Holy Crap!!
Ok, how cute is this guy? It's a teeny cod!
This is a cusk fish...kind gooey feeling as you can tell by the "Ewwww" look on my face. I learned that they taste pretty darn good!
Never foul hooked a starfish before. My jacket tells you that I caught all three of these "fish" on the same day. You just never do know what will be at the end of your line off the bottom!
This is my husbands buddy, John, and the first striped bass he ever caught. Hey, mine's pretty nice, too!
